MALIGNANT FIBROUS HISTIOCYTOMA ON THE OCCIPITAL SCALP

Abstract
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma(MFH) is a pleomorphic sarcoma which most frequently arises in the soft tissue. The micromorphology of the tumor is characterized by a storiform pattern with "cart-wheel"arranged spindle shaped fibroblast-like cells and pleomorphic histiocyte-like cells, malignant giant cells and bizzare mitoses. These tumors are considered highly malignant and frequently metastasize. Major surgical resection and radiation thrapy have been preferred methods of primary treatment.
We experienced a case of huge malignant fibrous histiocytoma developed from the occipital scalp. The tumor was excised widely and defect was covered with latssimus dorsi myocutaneous free flap and skin graft, A total 6500 rads of radiation were were given postoperatively.
